If you haven’t gone scuba diving in Subic, you are missing out on one of the biggest tourist attractions of the country. Subic is truly an exceptional haven for adventurers with its variety of diving spots and wreckage sites. Most of the wrecks are a result of the U.S and Spanish war in 1898 and the Japanese vessels that sank during World War II. There is just a ton of history in the waters of Subic, just waiting to be discovered. But before you go on exploring the seas of Subic, there are some things to keep in mind before taking off under water.
Diving with absolutely no experience is not allowed in Subic or in any other resort worldwide. Tourists who would want to experience diving should enroll themselves in dive courses and pass the diver certification course. Fortunately, scuba diving schools are available around the Subic Bay area. Courses are available for everyone from novice ones to the professionals ones, even for individual or group tuition courses.
Upon completion of the dive certification course, students will be awarded with a certification card to be shown to any diving shop or company you plan to go diving with. Agencies such as PADI, CMAS, TDI and SSI are only some of the agencies that award certification to divers. Make sure your dive shop or dive center in Subic Bay is affiliated with any of these agencies to authenticate your certification.
Some of the requirements for taking a scuba diving certification course are that the student should be in good physical shape and should feel completely comfortable in the water. Dive centers advice students to visit their doctors prior to the course for a health check. Students should be able to tread water or float for at least 10 minutes.
There are four segments to the diving course: Book work, exams, pool work and the open water dives. Up until recently, students were able to opt to do the book portion of the certification online. After the book and pool work completion, a referral to do your open water dives will be given to you. Open water dives usually take place in a lake, quarry or ocean with normally 4 to 5 successful open dives. Know that your open water dive should be done within a certain amount of time upon receiving your referral. Practice the skills you have learned in class and in the pool. If you’re successful, you will finally be able to receive your certification card.
