The El Kabayo Equestrian Center located in the Subic Bay Freeport Zone offers a wide variety of horse-related activities. Most horses are imported from the United States, Australia and Argentina, with thoroughbreds, saddlebreds, standardbreds and quarter horses available. These horses offer a great contrast to the native breeds found in the Philippines. Quality horses that are retired from horse sports and show circuits can be found here. Some of the horses even have championship blood lines that are imported from other countries. Even though riding may not be your cup of tea, a visit to this equestrian center is well worth the trip even if only just to marvel at the magnificent horses or take a tour around the facility.

The now extremely popular stable of Subic Bay features a unique and clever twist. The facility is a replica of an old western town that looks straight out of an American cowboy movie. The horses are stabled in a fully recreated town out of another time and another place. Mock-up recreations of an old-west general store, restaurants/saloons, trading posts, a post office, a hotel, a drugstore, a bank and a telegraph office can all be seen as though they came out of the American West. The most entertaining part of the town that is also captured in pictures is the mock sheriff’s office, country jail and the courthouse, all of which are situated together. Visitors will be able to walk along the front facade of the creative and entertaining complex as majestic horses gaze through their openings to interact with their guests.

The center offers traditional trail rides but the most popular is the one-hour horse ride into the jungle to the Kabayo Falls and back. No experience is required to ride the horses as an experienced rider will walk along your side during the entire trip. The falls are not much of a sight to behold but it is a nice place to stop and relax in the midst of the jungle. Beginners who doubt their riding skills and want to improve their riding abilities can take lessons at the center. The experienced ones can simply rent a horse and gallop their way through the paces in the riding arena. To those skilled horseback riders, they can choose to venture into additional trails upon request. Recently, the El Kabayo riding stable revealed their latest offering for the more adventurous Subic tourists, a trail that runs through the lush tropical forest and jungles of Subic and has a picturesque peek at the crystal waters by the bay.

The horse center also has a restaurant called Unicorn Saloon, which serves American dishes like real barbecues and beverages. Visitors usually stop by this restaurant to rest and eat after a tiring horseback ride.

Riding a horse is an adventure in itself that everyone should get to experience. Horse lovers who cannot afford to keep a horse should find the El Kabayo a great opportunity to unleash their passion for horse riding. Ride to your heart’s content and experience a horse stable like no other.
